1 step back, 2 steps forward - Dilina Bandara
Took some time to write this, but here it goes.
This update will focus entirely on JustEnglish.
Unfortunately, I don't have any disruptive metrics, as I've shifted my focus to the product + value aspect of the services we offer.
I won't be sharing things like I achieved X revenue and have Z number of students on this update.
Right now, I'm trying to figure out methods to track the progress of students in terms of metrics.
An example of that would be:
This is how you started out.
This is how you're doing right now.
And here's where you can get to in X period of time.
Maybe there's a way to just ship an average product and keep improving on the go, but this is not exactly the case at JustEnglish from my learning.
I'm aiming to fix the basic loopholes before moving to the next steps like scaling, acquiring students, marketing, etc.
Here's a clearer example that I could cite:
Rather than focusing on marking the register and how many show up at school, I'm looking to create the report card, i.e., how you're doing in school.
For the last few months, my focus has been on the register and school fees, and less on the report card.
Why am I focused on this now?
There was a huge difference in what students expected vs what they got.
No way to show what they're getting better at - what they need to improve.
Unclear end goal for students.
For example: how long do I have to be here to improve my English?
What about the existing program?
It works; students have improved, they've gotten confident, and they're happy about the program (based on their feedback).
But... how can I tell? What specific information do I have to prove this?
— This is exactly what I'm working on right now.
What's happening now?
I'm testing data points with existing students to find a way to:
Track student behavior and progress for each student.
Track moderator behavior and progress.
That's it for this one. See ya on the next. Cheers!
